About IOS Physiotherapy
Nicola Heneghan is a Chartered and State Registered Physiotherapist and Fellow of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP).
After qualifying in 1988, Nicola gained considerable clinical experience, firstly with the NHS in Leeds, followed by an overseas stint in Canada before setting up a successful private practice in the Lake District. In 1998, she took a year out to complete an MSc in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy in London leading to membership of the MACP. Thereafter, Nicola has continued to work clinically, although her primary involvement has been providing specialist clinical education in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and rehabilitation to qualified physiotherapists (postgraduate) at several universities. During this time, she studied for a PhD completing her doctorate in 2013 at the University of Birmingham.
As part of her academic role, Nicola worked as an educator and consultant for the English Institute of Sport (EIS), supporting provision of athlete health and wellbeing through education of, and research with, EIS physiotherapists.
Nicola continues to be involved in education and research at a number of UK universities (UCL, Birmingham, Hertfordshire) and presents regularly at national and international conferences.
Now, having relocated to the Islands in 2021, she intends to devote most of her time to the IoS Physiotherapy clinic bringing her extensive experience, knowledge, and research expertise to Scilly. She enjoys working with people across the lifespan with a range of musculoskeletal complaints, specifically those requiring rehabilitation, empowering individuals to manage and optimise their musculoskeletal health so as to enjoy full and meaningful lives.

Testimonials
I met Nicola while on holiday and needing an urgent physio due to an injury sustained as a professional dancer. Nicola was incredibly knowledgeable and thorough in her diagnosis and described in detail everything that was going on, so I could understand it. She provided hands on relief from my pain and offered lots of invaluable suggestions to manage life around my injury. She quickly referred me to an excellent surgeon, who confirmed Nicola’s diagnosis, and I now have a plan forward to recovery. I cannot recommend Nicola highly enough; she gave me answers that I have been looking for for many years and other practitioners haven’t been able to give me. I just wish she lived closer!
